FAQ

Common questions

Quick answers to what bakers, gift buyers, and event hosts ask most. If your question isn't here, drop us a note via the Contact page.

Ordering & Shipping

Do you ship internationally?

Currently we only ship within the US. Cost and customs handling for international orders varied too much for a one-person workshop to manage reliably. We may add international shipping in the future. Drop us a note via the Contact page if you'd like to be notified when that changes.

How do I track my order?

Once your order ships, you'll get an email with a tracking number from USPS or UPS (depending on package size). The tracking link in that email shows live carrier updates. If the email didn't arrive, check your spam folder before reaching out.

How long does it take to ship?

Orders ship in 3–5 business days from the workshop in Colorado Springs. You'll get a tracking number by email when your package leaves. US shipping only at this time.

Do you take custom orders?

Yes. Customer looking to place a large order, looking for specific materials or specific dimensions should send a note via the Contact page and we'll see what's possible.

Returns & Exchanges

What if my order arrives damaged?

Email us a photo of the damage within 7 days of delivery and we'll either replace the damaged item or refund it. No return needed for damaged goods. We pack carefully but cedar boards travel hot and cold across the country, and occasional damage happens. We make it right.

Can I change or cancel my order after placing it?

Within 24 hours of ordering, yes. Send us a note via the Contact page and we'll catch it before it ships. After 24 hours we may have already started preparing your kit, so changes get harder. Cancellations on items already in transit fall under our return policy instead.

What if I want to return something?

You have 30 days from delivery to request a return. The product needs to come back unused, undamaged and with all original pieces. Return shipping is the buyer's responsibility unless the item arrived defective. Send a note via the Contact page to start a return.

Allergens & Ingredients

Are your kits gluten-free?

We make a dedicated Gluten-Free Bagel Making Kit with a GF dough mix (psyllium-based, brown-sugar-and-baking-soda boil instead of malt). The standard Bagel Making Kit contains wheat. Both kits are produced in a shared home kitchen. See the full Allergen Disclosure for cross-contact details before ordering if you have celiac disease or a severe gluten allergy.

What allergens are in your kits?

Our edible kits contain wheat (in the standard Bagel Making Kit) and sesame (in the everything seasoning that ships with both kits). We produce in a shared home kitchen where wheat is present. Full per-kit allergen profiles plus the standard home-kitchen disclosure live on the Allergen Disclosure page.

Are the boards food-safe?

Yes. The cedar is raw and untreated. No chemical sealants, no varnishes, no glues that touch food. The burlap covers are food-grade and woven with natural vegetable oils, not the petroleum-treated industrial burlap most boards ship with. Everything that touches your dough was selected for direct food contact.

Why cedar?

Cedar holds water without warping, and it gives off a faint cedar aroma when it hits a hot oven that doesn't transfer to the bagels. It's been the wood of choice for bagel boards in New York shops for over a century.

Care & Cleaning

How often should I oil my bagel boards?

very few months under normal use, or whenever the wood looks dry or has lost its sheen. A thin coat of food-safe mineral oil rubbed in with a soft cloth, left overnight, then wiped down. Don't use vegetable oils as it will go bad in the boards.

Can I put my bagel boards in the dishwasher?

No. The high heat warps cedar and the detergent strips the natural oils. Hand-wash with mild soap, rinse, air-dry standing on edge. Same advice for the bagel stand. It's polycrylic-finished so wipe-down only, no soak.

How do I take care of my products?

Bagel boards: soak in water before each use, hand-wash with mild soap, air-dry standing on edge, and rub on a thin coat of food-safe mineral oil every few months. Bagel stands: wipe with a damp cloth, do not soak. The finish is food-touch-safe but not dishwasher-safe. Product-specific care details live on each product page.

Products & Variants

What is the difference between Classic and Signature boards?

Classic boards have stapled food-grade burlap covers. It is the working tool, traditional and dependable. Signature boards have snap-removable food-grade burlap covers, so you can wash the burlap separately or replace it as it wears without replacing the whole board. If you bake a few times a year, Classic is fine. If you plan to bake every week, Signature pays for itself within a year or so.

How many bagels do the Bagel Baking Kits make per batch?

Each kit makes 6–8 bagels per batch. Two boards fit in a standard home oven side-by-side and hold 3–4 bagels each. Active time is about 90 minutes; total time including dough rest is around 4 hours.

What's included with a Bagel Stand?

Each Bagel Stand ships with the polycrylic-finished pine stand, the rod count you select (1 to 4), per-rod chalkboard signs, and a chalk marker. Optional schmear-kit add-ons include small trays and spreading knife for cream cheese or butter at brunch service. Up to 3 schmear kits can be added per stand.

Where are these made?

Every board, kit, and stand is built one at a time in a one-person workshop in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Materials are sourced from US suppliers, with special attention on selecting high quality, food grade materials only.

Gifts & Gift Cards

Do you sell gift cards?

Yes, gift cards are available from the shop. They're delivered electronically to the recipient's email immediately or scheduled for a future date. No expiration. Use the Contact page if you want a custom amount that isn't listed.

Can I include a gift note?

Yes, there's a gift-note field at checkout. Notes are printed on a small card and tucked inside the kit before shipping. Keep notes under about 200 characters so they fit cleanly on the card.

Are the kits gift-wrapped?

Each kit ships in a clean cardboard box with the contents arranged for presentation. No separate ribbon or wrapping paper. The kit itself is the gift. If you want wrap-style packaging, that's a customization request. Drop us a note via the Contact page and we'll see what's possible.
